Dreamweaver baby, let's go out ;)

This is kinda my "tongue in cheek" response to "DreamWeaver baby, we need to talk" by Leslie Camacho. Heh - I have ZERO arguments with anything he wrote there! But, erm, well, after dealing with a bunch of junk from Frontpage (_vti_cnf files, and the lack of being able to connect to a server because there's no "Passive FTP" option, plus other nameless hassles), and after Dreamweaver seemlessly handled every issue like a real pro, hmm... I think Frontpage and I need to start seeing others, and in all truth, Dreamweaver's caught my eye ;)

I'd attempt to write a stylistic come-back to Les's excellent writing skills, but for one, I don't feel like trying to show him up, and for another, I'm just NOT in the mood. Sorry. If you want a good laugh, go read his article :)

Now, it's true that Frontpage DOES have some really cool features. It handles tables in a way that Dreamweaver can't hold a stick to. It also manages .CSS and Styles in a way that I personally prefer, though most people would say they like DW better for that. There is ONE feature that DW really NEEDS to improve on, which I was quite shocked that it stinks so badly with. You know that little color-picker tool, the eyedropper? In Frontpage you can go OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM and pick ANYTHING that's on any part of your screen! Um, Dreamweaver's color-picker just sticks within the program itself. It's not "mobile" or whatever. While it's true that Frontpage also leads DW in the whole database connectivity arena, well, it uses .asp and MS Acess, a concoction which sucks, big time, so I won't say much more about it than this: DW doesn't do databases at all, as far as actually creating and maintaining them is concerned.

So, Frontpage and I will still see eachother once inawhile, for old time's sake and to have a few colorful laughs, but really, I dig DreamWeaver's simplicity in server connectivity and file management. So, here's lookin at you, DW. Frontpage, you don't let the door hit your back end on the way out.

Erik

This is Erik's Heart, in a nutshell :D

I'm not writing this because I have to, or because I think I should, or any of that. In fact, Erik has no idea I'm writing it! Just to clarify :)

Erik is definetely a way outstanding, and very cool dude. Because of wacko circumstances, I'll probably always remember the date I met him, and since I'm writing this up, I guess I'll never have an excuse to forget :June 1, 2005. This last June, we celebrated that meeting by having a book discussion on the Christian Hedonism book, Desiring God, by John Piper (I STILL have to finish it!)

Erik has seriousely been through so incredibly much with me that friendship has to offer - and yet, there's ALWAYS more :D We've traveled down so many roads and been through so many things together. He followed his heart to the Library when he knew that God wanted him to meet someone there, and when I showed up, he didn't have to ask if I was that person, he just knew it was me (God had told me to go meet him at the Library as well, and within an hour, I realized it was him). He offered me a chance to go through his Bible study, to find Salvation and a real Relationship with God, to learn to like his rats (I'm working on rats in general, :p), to gain a true friend, brother, and partner in crime under God, and to, most recently, learn what it means to genuinely be Loved by an awsome person, and to for once in my life, unreservedly Love another human being as well. I've always Loved my brother, Jeff, but as I've said before, he isn't able to be the complete brother to me that Erik is. Autism screwed him over. Erik has more than made up for what Jeff is unable to have in a relationship with me.

I want to say here that while I'm writing up probably the most endearing livagie for Erik, he'd be the FIRST to want it pointed out that he's not perfect, and so I'll throw that in for good measure ;) What's cool is that regardless of all the good or imperfect things I could say about him, none of that matters: I Love him. How can I not? He Loves me :D For those who've missed the caveat in prior posts, that's a platonic thing. Please see my post on Love. I'm far from perfect myself. There have been times I've caused him seriouse and rather complete pain, without having any idea I was doing so, and still he has Loved me through it all. And he's always forgiven me, told me that he understands, that everything's going to be alright, and that he's there for me. It matters most to him that I know God's Love for me, but it also matters to him that I know that he Loves me. He works incredibly hard to be Jesus to me, and continues to remind me that he'll always keep working to gain my trust. Well, Erik, you have it :)

Recently, I had an awsome opportunity to get a good look at his eyes. They tell a thousand stories, of God's Love and Erik's too, and so I wanted to share that with you :D

Delly Baby, II

Last night, I'd had ENOUGH of my Delly overheating! It was one thing to cutely joke about keeping her on a fan - it was another thing when I found that this DID help somewhat and actually wore the fan out by overusing it that way. Um, apparently, upright cheap-o fans just aren't meant to be used that way ;) So, I IMed Sharif, and asked him what to do. As usual, he immediately had the answer! Heh - though I ought to be used to that by now, it just never ceases to fascinate me how he's able to just do that :D Anyway, he sent me to the following links on some site from Germany, and the programs I downloaded were just the answer!

SpeedSwitchXP

I8kfanGUI

Seriousely, those of you who have Dell Notebooks running Windows XP... Get those programs, fool around with them, and cool your CPUs the reasonable way. Here are the results! (The 08 is just some standard number, I guess. The 28 and 25 represent Delly's CPU temperature.)

This was last night, after a quick cool down session.

This was this morning, after Delly had been off for about 5 hours.

I've found that hybernating her, rather than shutting her off, keeps the two programs from the above links active and running from the second Windows reloads after being unhybernated. This means the CPU fan turns on almost immediately, which in my book, is a very awsome thing!

She tends to run at an average of about 40 degrees when I have a couple of applications running at the same time. She used to be somewhere around 60 degrees!

There is one more trick to this. It's not a big deal, normally, but I think it does help. It has to do with keeping good air-flow to the CPU fan. I used my USB Retractable Connector as a sort of barrier between Delly and a solid surface, in this case a drawing pad, so as to create room under her for air-flow. Between that, and keeping the AC on in my room, plus all this other stuff, Delly's doing just fine now ;D

Delly Baby

A.K.A. You know your a poor geek when...

I LOVE Delly, don't get me wrong. She's the best thing that ever happened to my geekdome, but seriousely, this IS sad. Perhaps a MAC would have been a better pick for me, yet I'll say this much: I COULDN'T have gotten through my classes at WWC with a MAC alone. I would have had to have both OS on my system at the same time, just to survive, since all of WWC excepting the MAC lab is on a purely Windows based network. Even with that, I still had to do a lot of jump-driving, 'cause they don't yet have a good "FTP" style interface for their wireless users. They seriousely need that.

Anywho, here's to you, Dellilah Ruth, you Imasculating Chick who found her Boaz ;)
